Pro Tour Austin LCQ Bring More T2 [Standard]

The last chance qualifiers have wrapped up for Pro Tour Austin and Jund dominates the tournament tables again, showing five in the Top 8. Let’s talk about the other three decks that topped.

Decklists are Here

This Top 8 did not contain Boros Bushwhacker (Not surprising), Mono Red, or Vampires. This doesn’t mean that these decks are out of the running for top tier slots but the results definitely show the development of Naya and Knight of the Reliquary decks.

GBW Lotus Angel

Apparently when you build a deck with eight $30 mythic rares you can almost beat Jund.  If you look closely you’ll notice that this deck is very similar to last week’s Naya Lotus Angel deck (The one that I said had a lot of potential). It drops Red and Cascade for Black and Planeswalkers.  Woolly Thoctar becomes Putrid Leech, Rampaging Baloth becomes Thornling,  Lightning Bolt becomes Pulse and Behemoth Sledges get Maindecked. The other innovation was the addition of Terramorphic Expanse, which is really not bad with the Cobra on the board. I like the direction that this deck is going.  It has options for Tidehollow Sculler, Day of Judgment and Ob Nixilis, The Fallen.

Naya Zoo + 1 Swamp
This deck is also making use of the Terramorphic Expanse as a supplemental fetch land. Last week’s Naya Zoo was rocking Scute Mobs and Naya Charms

This is your typical Ranger of Eos Zoo build with the exception of one lonely swamp, which was splashed to fuel the powerhouse removal spell Maelstrom Pulse. I think this needs another Vengeant but other than that this deck looks like it hit’s hard and has a lot of staying power.  The sideboard is sporting Dauntless Escorts to keep your dudes alive after sweepers and Celestial Purges to put the crunch on Jund.

I think decks like this can really capitalize on a singleton Goblin Bushwhacker; It would give things like Thoctar's and KotR haste and it's tutorable with the Ranger of Eos.

RWU Control
Finally the control players get tossed a bone and someone stuck Cancel in a T2 deck (The pilot of this deck said that Cancel should have been Double Negative). This deck looks legit but I am not sure about the “Walls” plan. I can say that I have played with Sphinx of the Lost Truths and Bogardan Hellkite and both are very good. The same can be said about the new life lands. I run eight in my Grixis Control list and they usually negated my opponent’s first attack, kinda like a Time Walk.
