My Opinion
Who cares? Not I. Changes are good, I feel like they made some of these changes to open up design space and others to make the game more friendly for beginners. I trust WOTC to continue to make a great game - I mean after all if they don't then they don't survive financially.
Rule Changes
Here is a quick summary of the rules changes:
1) Simultaneous Mulligans- Yeah, We mull at the same time now.
2) Terminology Changes - See Below.
- Battlefield - The new name for the "In-Play" zone.
- Cast, Play, and Activate- You cast spell, play lands and activate abilities.
- Exile - The new name for "RFG" zone.
- Beginning of the End Step- Made to clear up "at end of turn" and "until end of turn".
- Mana Pools Emptying - Mana empties at the end of each step and phase. No more floating mana to the draw step in response to Mistbind Clique or Tangle Wire.
- Mana Burn Eliminated - RIP Mana Burn
5) Combat Damage No Longer Uses the Stack- No more "Stack Damage" then sac Mogg Fanatic or with damage on the stack pump and save a dude. The last time to react is in the declare blocker step after blocks have been declared.
- Blocking Order - Now the attacking player choose how damage will be assigned by using a blocking order.
7) Lifelink- No longer trigered, now it is static and handled by state-based effects. You can live if you block with a lifelinker even if you are being delt leathal damage. No more Double Lifelink.
